Trick or Treat!

Tonight was trick-or-treat!
The girls had a great time. Also, they finally had a reason to dress-up.

Maddie performing.

Dorothy in RED cowboy boots!

The funniest thing that happened tonight was...

When Lilly (who just turned 3yrs) informed me, "This is where they have rummage sales", then proceeded to point to a church. I thought it was pretty hilarious. I guess she knows where to get a bargain. My kids think Goodwill is called the "treasure store", because you can always find a treasure.

Have a good night!

Strange Weather

Today the weather was very unusual, tornado warnings and thunder storms. I took this picture while looking out my window. Fortunately, we did not have to go to the basement. We just stayed inside all day.

This evening I did run to the garden to check on our one-and-only pumpkin. I planted the seeds late, so only one survived. I was hoping it would be ready by trick-or-treat, but sadly she didn't make it. Her stem had been broken by the storm, and she just barely started to turn orange.

Next year I'll definitely plant pumpkins early.

As for the rest of the garden...

It's pretty much dead.
I think I had a very successful first garden. About 300lbs. of tomatoes, popcorn, 3 heads of cauliflower (We did not eat), tons of peppers, green beans, squash and loads of zucchini.
You're probably wondering why we didn't eat the cauliflower.
Well if you haven't grown cauliflower, don't grow it if you don't care for worms. The short green chubby ones. My mother told me when I picked it to soak it in salt water for several days, to get the bugs out. I did that. Then I started cutting it apart and saw them. They were dead, but I nearly vomited. For now and forever I will always buy my cauliflower (even though at some point it had worms).

There is actually still some cauliflower growing in the garden.

Have a good night!

Apple Butter Festival

Every year my dad has his annual APPLE BUTTER FESTIVAL. This is the highlight of his life. He gets out the copper kettle and hooks it to a large steel arm (that he has welded and permanently positioned in the middle of the back yard).  Then he sits by it hours upon hours watching it cook over a fire.
What is funny about the whole thing is that it's not a true festival. Just a bunch of people getting together, taking turns stirring this big pot of apples. Years ago my family would go to a real apple butter festival. My dad would stand with envy while watching a vendor make and sell apple butter. He swore every year that someday that would be him. Needless to say he finally got a kettle, and here we are.

Here are just a few pics from...

Terry's Apple Butter Festival!

And here is the Apple Butter King himself!

He just loves when I take his picture.

Terry isn't the only one having fun!

See you tomorrow!

Exhaustion

Today, I'm recovering from total exhaustion.
I got a brilliant idea to work 16 hours yesterday, which turned into 17 hours. My day started at 4:30am and ended 1:30am, then I had to get up at 7:45am this morning to get Maddie ready for preschool.  I've been absolutely worthless today. I use to work 16hr shifts quite a bit, I was even able to stay up for 2-3 days at time (if necessary). I've come to the realization that I'm officially old (a young old that is). Recently, someone asked me my age and I had to calculate it. I couldn't remember my thirty-first birthday. One day I was talking with a friend about high school reunions, and I said my ten year was coming up. Then I realized it was my fifteenth.
Where does the time go?
And where did my mind go?

Anyway...

Here are some pics of a Halloween tree/arrangement in my family room.

Have a restful night!

My Ulcer!

Here it is!
Finally, I'm posting the ulcer that you've been waiting for.

Before

After

Initially, I painted the Hoosier a solid red. After several coats of paint, I just hated it. Last night my mother and I distressed and stained it.
I want your opinion!
There is a poll in the left sidebar.
Don't worry about hurting my feelings, because I have none (LOL).
Please give an honest answer.
Have a great night!

I Haven't Left You

I'm still here. I've just had a stressful week (for once it's not related to the ER). Poor little Lilly was also ill yesterday, but is much better today. I will be working a lot of extra hours this month and next, but I will try not to disappear  too often or for too long.

These pictures were taken at my parents home.

You can tell winter is right around the corner.

Mother came over earlier this evening and helped me finish that wretched Hoosier cabinet that has given me an ulcer. Believe it or not, but it is completely finished! I'm still not quite sure about it, so I'm going to let all of you be the judge. You'll know more tomorrow. I would have posted the pictures tonight, however my camera takes terrible evening pics.

On another note...

My mother and I are starting an Etsy store , we too have to keep up with Mrs.Jones in blogland.

Here is a brief preview of a couple items.

Have a good night.

Mama says "...it looks like crap."

Call me a liar, but I couldn't post the Hoosier cabinet. My mother says "...it looks like crap!" The thing gives me nausea looking at it. I will be posting a makeover soon, but I don't know what to do w/ the ugly thing. I'm afraid to sand it, because it will probably give me lead poisoning or tetanus.

I apologize immensely!

See you soon.

Weekend Project Update

As you can see, I haven't finished the project. I do have it painted, but I still need to make a curtain for the missing door. I'm not happy so far with project, the cabinet was in worse shape than I originally thought. After scraping some of the paint off, I did find a little treasure. The original Hoosier label was still intact.
I will see you definitely tomorrow night with finished result!

Have a good night.

Weekend Project

Hoosier Cabinet

My mother picked this up for me at a family auction last weekend. My goal (now I said goal) is to have the after pics tomorrow night. This baby needs a lot of TLC.

One last thing...

Maddie requested I post her, with her art work.
