5yr Old Martha Wannabe

I'm slowly putting together my dining room (I've only lived in this house for two years now). Maddie put together a fall arrangement for me, with the gourds she grew in the garden (not too bad for a 5yr old). Mother also contributed as always, a table runner and the chairs.

Maddie added dried Marigolds to the "table scape" (per Maddie's words). Something I just wouldn't have thought of.

You never know what kids are going to say, most of the time I hold my breath and pray. The other day out of the blue Maddie says, "Martha Stewart is practically the most perfect person...Mom she can do just about anything". I have not watched or read Martha in a long time (since we don't have TV). Where do they come up with stuff?

Have a restful night.

Chenille Bedspread and $10.

Last summer I bought a wingback chair for $10. In my brain I thought I would slip cover it right away with a chenille bedspread. Instead, I used it has a clothes hanger in my bedroom.

I can't seem to find my before pics, so I'll show you how it all came together. I do not do PATTERNS! I've never been able to figure them out.

Basically, I pieced and pinned everything together.

Then I sew it.

Not to shabby!
And it only cost $10, and a huge mess.

Updates...

We've been very busy. The girls are back to school.

The garden did OK this year. I planted very late, now I'm finally ready to pick tomatoes. There's not as many as last year.

Lots of gourds.

Hope all of you are well!
See you soon.

Howdy!

Howdy Everyone!
Why did I just say that? It must be wishful thinking. I so desperately want to be a farmer. Maddie picked a watermelon from the garden this morning. I'm quite sure it wasn't ready to pick, but she ate it anyway.

Now for the armoire organization. This isn't anything fabulous, but definitely looks much better.

No, you are not seeing things. Those are VHS tapes. I have been all over searching for them. Remember I told you my children have broken five DVD players (computer and laptop included). I decided no more! We've been using the VCR for four months now, and it's still kickin.
Back to the redo...
As you can see I painted the armoire. I used chalkboard paint inside the doors.
Here's the link to the armoire redo I did last summer.

Moving on...

Mom has been working on the chairs. They look quite nice. She painted them black and recovered the seats.

Have a great weekend!

Best 10 cents ever!

What can you do with 10 cents?

I made my mother go back to a yard sale and get this. I used a little high gloss white spray paint.

After that I decided to paint some real glass, it was very easy. Just don't over spray because it can easily drip.

I've been off for a few days, so I'm working on some projects.

Here's a sneak peak for tomorrow!

Have a restful day.

Isn't she pretty?

This weekend the girls picked the first veggie.

I made some eggplant parmesan.

Wasn't too bad.

Have a good evening.

Need Motivation

Remember that cedar patio set I bought last season? I need some motivation in painting it. I dreamt of sipping iced tea and reading a book while sitting under the umbrella. Well, I got the umbrella and have had several books this summer. However, I've only painted three chairs.

HELP! I need MOTIVATION!!!!

On another note...

I made these basket liners for Mother's Day.

Well, mother decided to change her gift. She tea stained the fabric, added ties and spray painted the basket.

I suppose it looks pretty good.

Have a restful day.

Holy Chairs!

My mother picked-up four chairs at a church rummage sale, then gave me two additional to makeover.
What's a girl to do with all these chairs?

(Pics aren't great. I took them at 7am.)

Besides trying to figure out what to do with these chairs, I've been on a baking frenzy.
Muffins and bread are my forte this week.

I made these blueberry muffins from the Martha Stewart Baking Handbook. I give them a B-. Not my favorite.

As for the garden...

It's coming to life!
Look at the cucumber plant I bought weeks ago.

No. You are not crazy.
This eggplant was mislabeled cucumber.
What a surprise!
Everything else seems to be coming in nicely.

Last but not least...
Here are some cool yard sale finds.

$0.50 each wire basket

$5 wooden box

Hope you're having a great weekend!
